Power in Practice: Your Life in Bloom

Ahhh, can you smell that? Spring is officially springing — that sweet spot where the air feels just a little softer, the grass is waking up, and the stores are practically screaming at us to buy all the flowers and vegetable seeds. And let’s be honest, a long weekend ahead is basically a giant cosmic nudge telling us to get outside, get our hands dirty, and start planting.

But here’s a funny thing about planting - and about life, really - that not enough people talk about: buying the seeds doesn’t make the garden grow.

Buying a book, signing up for a course, or attending a big “life-changing” event? Same thing. They’re great first steps - but they are just that: steps. Not magic wands. Not golden tickets. The real magic?

It’s in the day-to-day. The watering. The weeding. The getting-up and doing-it even when you-don’t-feel-like-it part.

The Spark

Now don't get me wrong - getting excited about change is important. Setting an intention to grow something new in your life - whether it’s a tomato plant or a whole new career - is a beautiful thing. It’s the start of a bigger journey. It’s the click of the lighter before the campfire.

But without real action, that little flame fizzles out.

Buying a book on self-improvement won't turn your life upside down unless you actually read it... and then apply what you learned... over and over again. Attending a seminar won’t skyrocket your career if you don't follow through on the ideas you were so pumped about when you left the room.

The truth? It’s really easy to believe that the initial excitement is enough. (Been there. Got the t-shirt. Lost the t-shirt.) But excitement without action is like planting a seed and then walking away, hoping for a miracle harvest.

It just doesn’t work like that.

Excuses Are Like Weeds

Here's the lesson I've learned - sometimes the hard way:

Excuses will grow faster than dandelions in July if you don’t keep them in check.

There will always be reasons not to show up:

  • "I’m tired."

  • "It’s raining."

  • "Maybe next week would be a better time to start."

  • "What if I fail?"

Oh, that last one.“What if I fail?” That’s the sneakiest, most stubborn weed of them all. It looks like it’s trying to protect us, but really, it’s just keeping us stuck.

Fun Fact:

Dandelions are one of the first sources of food for bees in the spring, so we’re actually encouraged not to mow them down right away. (Weeds can serve a purpose if you understand them.)

The trick is not to pretend excuses don't exist.

Recognize them and then choose action anyway.

The Power

The good news? And it is very good news?

We are not powerless.

In fact, we’re ridiculously powerful. (No, really -like, superhero powerful.)

We have the power to:

  • Change our habits

  • Shift our career

  • Heal relationships

  • Start that business

  • Learn that skill

  • Get stronger, braver, bolder

All by doing one thing: keep showing up.

It won’t always feel exciting. It won’t always feel easy. But it will absolutely feel rewarding when you get to the other side and realize, “Holy crap, I actually did it.”

Studies show that habits built through consistent (even small!) daily actions are 66% more likely to stick compared to when we go big but inconsistent. (Slow and steady really does win the race)

Since we’ve got a long weekend ahead (thank you, universe!), why not take this fresh energy and put it into practice?

Pick one thing. Just one.

Something that will create a positive ripple in your life or someone else's. It doesn’t have to be huge. It could be:

  • Planting your first vegetable bed

  • Sending that email you've been putting off

  • Starting a morning walk routine

  • Calling a friend you haven’t talked to in a while

  • Signing up for a class you've been eyeing — and actually logging in to it!

Then stick with it. See it through. Don't stop when it gets boring. Don't stop when the initial excitement wears off. Push past the "meh" moments, and keep going.

Trust me. When you look back, you’ll be so freaking proud of yourself that you won't even recognize the person who once thought, “Maybe I’ll just start next month instead.”

Plant, Nurture, Bloom

We all want change. We all want that glow-up, the happy ending, the montage where everything falls into place.

But before the movie montage, there’s a lot of gritty behind-the-scenes work that nobody sees:

  • The early mornings

  • The sore muscles

  • The “I really don’t feel like it” days

  • The small wins that only you notice

That’s where the real transformation happens.

That’s where power isn't just a feeling - it’s a practice. It’s a decision you make every day, even when it’s inconvenient, uncomfortable, or unglamorous.

So, this week, as you get outside and plant those flowers or veggies - or just take in the fresh air and sunshine - remember:

You’re planting seeds in your own life, too. Water them. Weed around them. Protect them from the storms.

And when they bloom? Oh wow - will it be worth it.

Wishing you a beautiful, vibrant, and power-filled week ahead.

Now, go get your hands dirty - in the best way. 🌱🌸
